Our 6 Realistic New Year's Resolutions for 2021
As January approaches, you're probably thinking of the year ahead and hoping for a better and brighter 2021. One way to celebrate this (and firmly leave 2020 on the scrap heap where it belongs) is to set yourself some achievable goals for the new year.
Don’t worry, we’re not about to suggest that you start hitting the gym three times a week or switch to a ridiculous fad diet (you already look great). Instead, these 6 realistic aims are designed to make you feel more connected to yourself and those around you.
Try Something New
“Variety is the spice of life” as they say and for good reason. Without new experiences, life can seem a little dull which can impact your mood.
Making an effort to do something different once a month, even if it’s just taking a walk somewhere new or cooking a different recipe, will inject some vitality into your routine.
Shop Small Businesses
2020 has been tough on small businesses but a resolution to try and shop small will make a real difference in 2021.
Instead of giving even more money to massive corporations, consider purchasing your usual gifts and products from independent retailers who will appreciate it far more.
Stay in Touch with Friends
It’s still not clear how long it will be before we can get together in person in the new year, but that doesn’t mean we have to lose touch with friends and family.
Whether it’s through zoom, text or email, try to find time to reach out to those you’ve not spoken to in a while. Or pick up the phone or even send a letter if you’re suffering from digital fatigue!
We know it’s easier said than done when you’re caught up in the stresses of modern life, but finding time for those connections will ease feelings of isolation and put a smile on your loved ones’ faces.
Make More Sustainable Fashion Choices
Over the years, women's fashion has fallen deeper into the low-cost and mass-produced trend. Which is having a detrimental impact on our environment due to the amount of clothes that end up in landfill each year.
Luckily, more and more brands are becoming conscious of this and are trying to change their approach to manufacturing and the mentality around fashion. You can help by making a resolution to choose sustainable clothing (like those which are preloved or ethically produced) over fast fashion. Look out for our blog with more advice on this in the new year!
Declutter Your Home and Your Mind
If, like us, all that time spent at home this year has made you realise just how much clutter you have lying around, it’s time for a clear out. This is probably going to feel overwhelming at first so start small and try to be methodical.
Taking each room at a time, look through each cupboard and shelve and get rid of anything you’ve not used in over a year. Be ruthless (do you really need 24 mugs?) and either donate it to charity or stick everything on a reselling site for some extra cash when you’re done!
As part of the process, make sure you find a home for any loose items like shoes or earrings. You might want to consider investing in a jewellery case to keep all your precious items safe and tangle free.
When you're done, make sure you take some time to really appreciate the feeling of space and freedom. It will make all the effort worth it.
Be Kind To Yourself
No matter what happens in 2021, remember you’re doing your best and making positive steps towards where you want to be. And that’s all that matters.
