Christmas Eve Boxes: What Are They and What Goes in Them?

Christmas Eve boxes are a new tradition that have grown in popularity over the last few years. And it’s not hard to see why. They’re a great way to kickstart the festive fun and get little ones and adults alike excited for the main event the following day.

Here’s everything you need to know to make the Christmas Eve box part of your family's festive traditions.

What is a Christmas Eve Box?

As the name suggests, a Christmas eve box is packed full of little goodies for the recipient to enjoy the night before Christmas. You might choose to give each person in your family their own box. Or you can have fun creating a family box that’s designed to be shared and enjoyed together.

How Do You Make a Box?

Many retailers now offer premade boxes for you to use as your Christmas Eve box. But we recommend getting creative (and saving some cash!) by making your own.

All you really need is some kind of container that can be upcycled to hold your festive treats. It could be an old shoebox, hamper basket or even something you’ve knocked up yourself from some trusty old pallets. Then all you need to do is decorate it with anything you can get your hands on - ribbon, paint, stickers or recycled wrapping paper. And for an extra personalised touch, add the name of the person receiving the box with either a pen or label.

What Do You Put Inside the Box?

This really is completely up to you and will vary depending on who you're giving the box to. As a general tip, try to think of things that will make the night before Christmas that extra bit special. A box for children might contain a classic Christmas film or book, sweets and a tub of indulgent hot chocolate. Whilst an adult’s Christmas eve box might contain a festive scented candle, pamper set and their favourite tipple. And don’t forget the obligatory matching PJs if you’re creating something for the whole family.

It’s also a nice idea to include something the lucky recipient can use or wear when they wake up in the morning. How about a pair of novelty socks for Dad? Or something from our range of novelty Christmas stainless steel stud earrings for the little ones? If it’s sure to get them excited about going to bed and waking up on Christmas Day, it’s a winner.

When Do You Open the Box?

As you’ve probably guessed, a Christmas Eve box should be opened on Christmas Eve. But what time exactly? Again, this is completely up to you. You might want to hold off until not long before the kids go to bed so they can enjoy their surprise snuggled up in their PJs. But on the other hand, if you’ve included things to do as a family, make sure you open it early enough to enjoy some quality time together before they’re worn out from all the excitement.

Whatever you decide to do for your box, we hope it helps you spread out the Christmas magic just that little bit more this year.
