5 Fresh Trends for 2021

In last week's blog, we took a look at the enduring trend of stackable rings. But what new styles should we be looking out for in 2021? From glamorous headscarves to beach inspired jewellery, here are the five hottest trends straight from the spring catwalks.

Oversized Blazers

This 80s-inspired trend could be spotted all over the SS21 fashion weeks. Think oversized fits, shoulder pads and long line silhouettes for a relaxed and informal look. Style over a white t-shirt and jeans for a playful edge or team with hoop earrings and straight-leg trousers to look like you mean business.

Silk Head Scarfs

An icon of the 50s and 60s, elegant silk headscarves are set to make a major comeback in women’s fashion this year. Look out for chain designs (which will also be popping up on shirts) and other bold prints including multicolour florals and mosaic patterns.

The beauty of this trend is that with just one piece of fabric, you can instantly update an existing outfit or style out those bad hair days with ease. For pure Hollywood glamour, make sure you tie the fabric under your chin. Or else switch it up and hide the knot under your hair at the back for something more understated.

Bring the Beach to You

Many of us are seriously hoping that 2021 will be the year we can soak up the sun in exotic locations once more. None more so, it would seem, than the fashion designers responsible for the beach themed prints and accessories that can be seen throughout the SS21 collections.

We’re talking straw bags, cork sandals, starfish prints and the sort of floaty fabrics that wouldn’t be out of place at a trendy resort. Team with bright jewels, beads and drop earrings to really channel that poolside style.

Slouchy Denim

Maybe it’s because we’ve spent the best part of the last year in loungewear, but 2021 is the year we’ll be wearing our jeans wide legged and loose. Channel your inner 00’s skater chic with light stonewashed denim that’s as wide as you dare at the ankles. To give the look some shape, wear with a chunky belt and tuck in a fitted tee. Or, if you’re feeling brave, swap the tee for a bralette and longline shirt.

Adventurous piercings

We can’t talk about 2021 trends without mentioning the coolest beauty accessory of the moment – piercings. But we’re not just talking about your basic stud earrings. Once seen as more alternative than high end, nose studs and cartilage piercings dominated the runways last year and they look set to be further embraced by mainstream fashion this season.

If you're thinking about taking the plunge and releasing your inner rock chick with a new facial piercing, then we strongly recommend that you choose a hypoallergenic jewellery option such as surgical steel to avoid the risk of an allergic reaction. If the idea of cartilage piercing is a little too permanent then you can always try rocking some statement ear cuffs instead.
